What do you make of the black-clad old crone (with the scary grin) whose carriage almost ran Merrin down in Iraq?
Nothing to it as Merrin almost walked out in front of her without looking?
A red herring?
A warning to Merrin?
Just a spooky plot device?
Something else?In the book, the crucifix scene is portrayed as masturbation with sensual cooing and “my pearl… ” etc.
In the movie it is raw, more vicious stabbing motion - to me, more a brutalisation of Regan than masturbation. Yet reviewers seem to refer to it as the crucifix masturbation scene.
Any thoughts?
Have I misread the book or misinterpreted the movie?
It’s possible they had to play it in the movie as a brutalisation, otherwise an adolescent girl masturbating sensuously (albeit possessed by a demon) may have been too unpalatable for audiences or even too difficult to film and not receive an American X rating.
