Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Rebalancing/Rework Concept
Happy 10th anniversary to Uncharted 4! This game still holds up really well and was one of the most enjoyable single-player campaigns I've ever played. Everyone knows how good the single-player turned out to be, but there's another component that goes almost completely forgotten about... the multiplayer.
Speaking as one of the few who still plays the multiplayer, I can say it still looks amazing and feels amazing to play (even rivaling some other AAA multiplayer titles out there)... but there are a LOT of issues surrounding it that makes the experience not as fun as it should be. Broken weapons, glitches and bugs galore, and other changes Naughty Dog made to make U4 more like Factions made people who played the previous multiplayers (U2 and U3 MP) not want to pick up this game and others to just not have a good time. This MP just... sucks. It feels like something ND put out there just because they felt like it was an obligation, which was a low blow for its dedicated multiplayer fans...
But what if we could fix that? What if we came together and made this game great and realize its full potential?
That's what I tried to do in this concept. Because I know a lot of people still love this game and how it plays. Nolan North himself even tried it out on his YouTube channel called CouchSoup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZzEiPURXSk
Like I said, this game does feel amazing to play, but there's a lot of fundamental issues that hampers the experience so much that you want to throw your controller every time you boot up this game. In this doc you'll find a bunch of concepts including but not limited to:
- Patching glitches like the speed glitch and OOB areas
- Improve network performance
- Weapon rebalancing (shifting around unnecessary damage flinch and nerfing meta weapons like the FAL, Copperhead, Aegis, etc. while buffing up some not-as-good ones like PAK-80, Para 9, RKL-155, etc.)
- Major overhaul of Store/Cash system and replaced with Kickback system akin to U3 (however, it'll work a bit differently and have two kinds of Kickbacks available to use instead of just one, more details in the doc)
- Reworked Down System while toning down things surrounding it (especially RevivePaks)
- Reworking Boosters such as making some Boosters universal abilities (Weapons Expert, Rope Master, etc.) and merging some Boosters together (Brawler and Undisturbed, Parting Gift and Endowment, etc.)
- Adding back MANY features from the previous MPs (Legacy levels, Negative Boosters, Emblems/Clan Tags, proper kill feed, and so much more)
- Removing Loot Boxes and make everything available to be purchased with Relics or Points
- Other QOL adjustments (reworked Trials, map redesigns, Playlists from U2, adding compatibility with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Performance/Graphics mode for PS5/PC players, a proper kill cam, etc.)
This is just the tip of the iceberg for what's in this doc. Be forewarned, though... this is a LONG document (110 pages), so I added a clickable Table of Contents for convenience's sake.
You might be wondering why I put in so much time into this... well, despite all of this multiplayer's problems, I still love it to death. I don't know why, honestly. I just do. And I'm sure a lot of people here feel the same way, too. We all want to see this MP be in the best state in can be, but ND unfortunately just abandoned us after only a year. A real shame too, considering this MP has so much potential...
With all that being said, I hope you all enjoy reading this concept. And please feel free to share it with anyone (while giving me credit) and comment down your own ideas!
