Hi there, could any 4th year help with the CTC of top tier SWE roles in google microsoft salesforce etc v/s quant/strat roles in banks like gc jpmc etc? Are they both around 50ish LPA? Any more roles' info would be helped a lot!

How serious is the no-contact rule for OCS if we contact companies (via referrals and contacts) that come on campus? I know a couple seniors who got in via off campus referrals and mainly connections jinhone aaj tak OCS mein cv tak nahi banai, but still, any idea and risks?

Just saw Bhavay's insta post about grades coming up on your degree, I do have an F in a course, it's kinda shameful that it's with me forever - I kinda do accept it, but it does feel kinda sad that you gotta live with it :(

Is there any GPA criteria or course grade criteria? Or can you just do courses and then all cool?

Hello there, I'm an EE student at IITD, and although I know getting into quant isn't really for me, and will probably be targetting quant and strat roles in banks or sde roles in big tech, what exactly is the WLB of a quant? Do quants even "think" about WLB? I mean assuming someone already is very knowledgeful and is young and enthusiastic, working 11-12 hours isn't a big deal, but say as you grow up, and you have hobbies too that you wanna dedicate some time to, for example, hitting the gym, or for instance parent-duties or whatever for that matter, doesn't it burn people out? It's a stressful job of course, hence my question, because I've heard multiple people exit out of quant firms after 2-3 years, is it true? What are the exit options one chooses after?

Another thing which my curiosity provoked me to ask in this sub, is the general compensation and WLB of three different possible roles across your entire career -

quant - trader, dev and researcher

big tech sde

quant/strat at banks

Does it come up on eacads or on mail? And when, on start of the sem or later? Since pre reg closes on 8th and def need to extend credits (<12 creds completed last sem)

Why are so many companies leaving out ee3? Itna kya issue hai? And btech ee + adv standing mtech cs is growing everywhere, what's the thing here? Why not btech ee power automation and adv standing mtech cs? Dono ke ranks mein bas 150-200 ka difference hi hoga na?

Pretty sad state lowkey, we can't do anything or what? Doesn't ee3 count as a circuital branch? I know the curriculum has changed and the new curriculum of ee3 is objectively is worse than the old one tbh, but is that the reason? Why can't OCS add EE1 and EE3 as the same thing on the site?

Hi there, I'm a college student studying engineering at delhi. For personal reasons, I'd like to change my surname from X to Y, keeping my first name as it is. I'll probably delve into this process in the winters of 2026 when I'll have my vacations and hence wanted to clear out a bunch of my doubts -

• What is the entire process? Yes on googling, there's a bunch of stuff written like drafting the affidavit, two newspaper ads etc, but can anyone provide more on-ground info/more detailed and holistic info? I'm studying in IITD, near Hauz Khas so could anyone guide me with whatever info/whatever places I could go and get this process done?
• How much will it cost me? And more importantly how much time will it take to get new identifications? I know in order to speed things up, govt officials take bribes cool, but still, an approximation on time and money required? I have multiple national and international competitions in the Spring semester of 2027 so I would prefer using the changed name for all digital identifications and footprints.
• How will I be changing all my previous digital identities like AADHAR or Voter ID or my 10th and 12th marksheets or college transcript? Is it to be done immediately, or gradually? And do I have to do it digitally or in a physical form at some office or worse case the school?!
• I don't want my parents to know as such and they kinda have access to my digi locker (although not excessively monitored, but yes) - so will I be needing their permission/ any kind of info from them? I have my AADHAR card at all points of time as a government ID but my parents have my voter id, pan card and drivers license when I'm in college - will that be a problem? Once I've changed my name I'll let them know of course, but I dont want any obstructions during the process!

Can we do self study for failed courses? What if my course is of a different credit amount (4, compared to 3 of self study?). Are there any other rules to be mentioned? and if im allowed, how will one know what failed course the self study is for?! anyone any idea?

Was looking at the JNFs of batch of 2024 after someone posted the placement states of cse iitd. Many quant companies like optiver, imc, alphagrep, jane street, hrt, tower research, virtu etc - do they not come for placements or what?! do they hire straight away from internships? can any 2026 grad confirm?!

How frequent/luck based it is that your advisor increases the credit cap? How much can one realistically expect? What is the procedure for adding courses then? Does your advisor do everything? When will the advisors come for the next semester (on eacads)?

Cheated in a test - wrote some shit on the table - what to do and what not to do? Moreover I am in Jaipur right now, do i postpone it or travel to campus?

Or do we have to take ELL409/COL774?
