High-end year-round residential pool — looking for overall impressions / improvements
Dear Reddit-verse,
Looking for a quick sanity check on a high-end, year-round residential pool design (Midwest US) using marine-grade stainless steel. Draft layout and inspo pics attached :)
Basics
~12–14 ft x 25 ft, rectangular/modern
No spa or cold plunge
Family use + swim-current workouts
Auto cover for year-round use
Structure / Finish
Evaluating polished/satin stainless vs tile (aesthetics, glare, heat, durability, maintenance)
Swim Current
Considering Badu Turbo Pro or Endless Pools Fastlane
Flush-mounted opposite the stairs
Likely no perimeter overflow due to current; open to edge/detail ideas
Depth
Leaning toward consistent or slight slope
Open to best depth for this size + swim current
Year-Round Setup
Auto cover
Lots of closed-cell spray foam on outside of SS shell
Gas heater + possible heat pump/chiller
Any concerns with solar gain on stainless finishes? (Coping will be stone not steel)
Systems
Cartridge filter, UV, full automation
Will likely supplement with small amount of Chlorine or peroxide (?)
Heating/cooling, RGB lighting
Subtle water features (like wall scupper fountain)
Key Questions
Best interior finish approach for a residential feel? Tile vs exposed stainless (full vs partial)? Could tile stairs.
Any issues with a flush-mounted swim jet in this size pool?
Best (least) sanitation for polished SS walls?
Ideal depth profile?
Best edge/detail with a strong swim current?
Any equipment changes you’d recommend?
Priorities for efficiency/heat retention in Midwest winters?
Anything I’m missing?
Appreciate any feedback from builders, designers, or owners of similar pools!
Cheers!
