Kind of makes me sad and nervous that these four shows don't have a season 2 announced yet, when other romance shows like Ramparts of Ice, MarriageToxin, and Mistress Kanan already do.
Tbf though, Botan Kamiina probably doesn't have enough manga material for a season 2 yet. All the others (in the picture) do though. Here's to hoping I guess.
And maybe this is just recency bias, but this has probably been the strongest anime season for romance in a looong time. I don't think any title will be as big as, say, Kaguya-sama but front-to-back, most if not every show this season was at the very least a solid 7/10 watch.
Manga premise: it's a romcom about two childhood friends who play an "I Love You" game and try to make each other flustered. They've long liked each other but don't have the guts to confess yet.
Kinda like Kaguya-sama but less comedy and more of an earnest romance. I love the art especially, it's so clean.
Looking for recs where the FMC swoons over the MC's LOOKS too, not just personality. Something like Angel Next Door, especially season 2.

Just watched the Maboroshi movie by Mari Okada (made Anohana and Toradora) and it was peak.
Idk why it got seemingly zero buzz? At the very least, I couldn't find posts about it in this sub.
I love the fluffy, wholesome vanilla romances we've been getting in recent years, but if you want something with a bit more drama and higher stakes, then I highly recommend it.
It's about a town getting into plunged into a timeless alternate reality and the MC and FMC discovering the truth about it.
Also, one of the hardest hitting kiss scenes I've seen in a romance anime!
