Okay, this might be very controversial, but whatever, here it is, and as the title already states, a limitation on the inventory (of weapons and items).
As you can see in the example, there are only 4 weapons, 1 explosive, one support item, and one consumable. The idea is that the player has to choose between 4 different weapons that can be used in different situations or even all at once. Limiting it to just one explosive could bring balance to the game by limiting massive damage (grenades and RPGs) or combat effects (C4 or smoke grenades). Then we have support items. Limiting it to just one, which currently is only the Forcefield or even the SWAT shield (with a rework or buff, this could be interesting), could open the door to more support items (I'm thinking of something like a healing machine for groups, a can that summons a turret, or even the ability to summon an indestructible wall for a certain time). And finally, the consumable. Currently, we have three, which are good, but together they are too overpowered, so limiting it to just one could be an effective balancing decision.
In conclusion, the idea of an item limit is for better balance in combat and inventory. I'd like to discuss this with you if you have anything to add or if you'd like to point out that I might be wrong (all opinions are welcome).
It occurred to me that perhaps the "escape bot" should have the same ability as the "tanker," it would make some sense because in the lore it has been used to explode structures
