is being hard of hearing a spectrum or Im coping ?

im hard of hearing. so are my two friends. one of them speaks very fluently in english, can talk normally on phone calls with no issue and speaks properly. occasionally struggles to understand videos without subtitles but rarely

the other friend however, despite living in an english speaking country for more than a decade, still struggles to speak english, cant do phone calls & struggles to pronounce words.

im in between. i moved to an english speaking country when i was 12 & ofc had no idea of english. but i worked very very hard and i got better and better. now i go to a top 30 uni studying stem. but this is it. my social life sucks , cant do phone calls and prefer one on one meeting Instead of groups.

so i was wondering if hard of hearing has categories, like a spectrum? Why do we have diffrnet experiences even tho we have similar hearing loss ? My friend can do phone calls but I cant . Why is that ? Am I dumb ?

i want a girlfriend too since apparently we're all admitting things now

Since half of r/UBC is apparently looking for someone and the swimmers have started their own dating category, I might as well join

I want a girlfriend. that's it.

Apparently the strategy now is just posting on reddit and hoping for the best, so i'm trusting the process.

Um preferably someone loyal, nice, doesn't wear skinny jeans, can hold a conversation and does not make me question why i wanted a girlfriend in the first place.

Swimmer status is optional. chlorine smell is negotiable....

Course section open ?

Why is engl 111 section still showing 45/45 seats available when another section is full with a waitlist?
Im registering for engl 111.
This section requires the LL6 discussion & the discussion has no meeting pattern listed (TBA) but both the lecture and discussion are marked open tho
Is this normal? Does workday let people enroll or until the discussion schedule is finalized ? should I add this course to my saved schedule? am I safe?

Interning at PWC as a cs student ?

I just finished my second year at top 40 uni and somehow landed a tech internship at PwC. I have no clue what I’ll be doing . During the interview , they asked me technical ques like database and also asked me basic ques like what’s do while loop what’s GitHub etc . Idk if it’s going to be SWE, AI, or IT consulting . Should I take it? Is interning at a Big 4 as a CS student weird asf ? Is working at a big 4 company impressive for tech companies like faang? I’m at a yellow light. Help me decide . I don’t want to waste my time there .

I think I will be homeless

My communication skills are garbage. I feel that I will never ever get an internship or job regardless of my technical skills. I am not awkward or weird. I am friendly, easy to get along with & usually have interesting things to say but I often mispronounce words, struggle to express myself etc, so people sometimes misunderstand me which make the situation awkward. So this is no no in tech companies .

Not only that but my listening skills are also garbage. I struggle to understand fast speakers or weird accents, especially during calls & it sometimes makes speakers frustrated or angry. It feels like they want to punch me in the face. I worry that I may never reach the same level as everyone else. It feels very unfair because I may not be able to improve due to certain conditions that I do not want to disclose. I am 23 years old & obviously I do not have people to practice with .

I enjoy programming and believe I have strong technical skills but I can’t prove due to my poor articulation/ speaking. What should I do man? I do not want to end up homeless just because of weak soft skills

Tech internship at pwc or nah?

I finished my second year and Im heading into third year this fall which is the most important year for landing internships. I haven’t gotten any summer internship offers despite applying to 1k applications. However, I got an offer for a kind of swe role at PwC through a referral. Should I go for it? or would it be a huge waste of time & I should just grind LeetCode & build projects instead? What do you guys suggest? Thanks
