Trying Times 4 months later

Now that trying times has turned 4 months old and has had time to settle, what do yall think of the project?

I personally still absolutely adore this album and almost all of the tracks. Songs like Rest of your life, Feel it again, and make something up have become such staples in my playlists and I can’t stop listening to them.

The tour for this album was fantastic as well! Hearing tracks like Trying Times, Rest Of Your Life, and Doesn’t Just Happen were soooooo good live.

Over these 4 months I think the best track on the album is easily Through The High Wire. As a big fan of ye, I had listened to the leak of the song months before the album released and fell in love. This track scratches an itch in my brain I never knew I had, it’s hard to describe why it’s so good to me. Feel It Again has also grown on me a ton since the album released, I initially had it as one of the weaker tracks but in hindsight I was tripping.

Here’s how I’d rank the tracks on Trying Times

  1. Through The High Wire
  2. Rest of Your Life
  3. Trying Times
  4. Make Something Up
  5. Feel It Again
  6. Days Go By
  7. Didn’t Come To Argue
  8. I Had a Dream She Took My Hand
  9. Just A Little Higher
  10. Walk Out Music
  11. Death Of Love
  12. Doesn’t Just Happen
  13. Obsession (interlude)

Astro A20 Gen 2 Equalizer/command center?

Hey all, I recently got some Astro A20's (gen 2) after my older Astro A20s died after almost 9 years of daily use. Does the gen 2 of the headset support the astro command center? I can't seem to get it to connect.

Rest Of Your Life Outro (The Greek Theater LA)

Going back thru some of my footage of this concert and forgot just how damn good Rest Of Your Life sounded, especially the improvised outro/jam session.

LA show was amazing! But…

Got back home from the concert a little bit ago and was thinking about it on the way home

First off, James and his team sounded fucking fantastic all night. I was so grateful to hear some songs like Choose Me, Radio Silence, and Say What You Will live.

But, I can’t stop thinking about a missed opportunity. As Monica Martin was one of the openers, I thought it made perfect sense to bring her out to perform either Show Me or, more appropriately, Didn’t Come To Argue. I just felt that it was a huge missed opportunity to play those tracks tonight.

The same can be said about SWAVAY when he was the opener in different cities, why not bring him out to perform Frozen?

It feels a bit odd that this Trying Times tour omits some of the tracks off of the already pretty short album. Those tracks being Didn’t come to argue, through the high wire (I wish he played this one, it’s my favorite James track as of recent), Feel it again (at least tonight in LA), and just a little higher.

Overall, such an amazing show but I do hope he makes minor tweaks to the setlist to include maybe 1 or 2 more songs off of Trying Times and at least one song off Playing Robots Into Heaven

Ye LIVE at SoFi vs Mexico City: Looking Back

Now that the high off the Ye SoFi shows has worn off I was curious. Was the SoFi show better than the Mexico City show?

Ive seen online some people calling the SoFi show his best concert in years which made me start to think.

I personally went to both nights in Mexico City and went to night 2 at SoFi stadium. I personally think that the night 2 Mexico City show was better than the SoFi show and wanted to discuss why.

I wanted to start with the most major difference of the two, the venue. Mexico City’s Monumental Plaza De Toros was an absolutely fantastic venue for the show. There were times where ye got up close and personal with the people in the lower sections which was so sick. Every seat had a great view, even up in the nosebleeds. The lighting, fireworks, and projections were all very well done, especially for night two. The most important part of Mexico City’s venue was the audio. It was crystal clear in that stadium, I was able to hear and understand ye the entire night. SoFi on the other hand was of course a sick venue as well. The 80,000 seat capacity made the whole night feel electric, the globe of course being the highlight. The lighting, especially for all of the lights/flashing lights) was great. However, the audio quality in SoFi was not very good at all. I’ve read online how people above the 300 section couldn’t hear a thing. Even on the floor, I was struggling at times to hear what ye was saying.

Onto the stages themselves. SoFi’s globe of course was a statement within itself. Ye looked sick as fuck on that stage but it definitely had its downsides. I’d say for 40% of the show we just couldn’t see him as he was walking on opposite sides of the globe. This especially sucked when Lauryn Hill, Travis Scott, and CeeLo Green came out and we couldn’t see them where I was standing. Mexico City’s stage was, in my opinion, perfect. The circular moon stage was such a perfect design in my opinion making ye visible the entire show. The only downside was sometimes the firework smoke would go into the crowd in the lower levels which was at times annoying. To me, the stage was the perfect choice for the venue, not super steep mound like in Korea, but not a boring flat circle either.

Now onto the most important part of the show, the setlist. Both shows of course had their similarities that ye always performs like Can’t Tell Me Nothing, On Sight, Flashing Lights, Stronger, and many more. But I actually think there are certain songs in Mexico that were performed way better than in SoFi. Having watched both the streams back again recently, the performance of Flashing Lights, Stronger, Can’t Tell Me Nothing, Bound 2. Mercy, and Good Life were way stronger in Mexico City especially with the Live production and Andre Troutman. I think Stronger and Good Life especially are worth a watch on their own, it’s that good. Besides those tracks mentioned above, the rest of the same songs that were performed felt about the same in both Mexico City and SoFi. SoFi did have stronger performances of the songs Beauty and the beast, blood on the leaves, and heartless though. Both nights also had their share of “special songs” that I want to go over. Starting with SoFi, which got Believe What I Say, Wolves, the extra bully tracks, and ofc FEIN. (believe what I say live in 2026 is insane!) But, I think for a Ye concert, Mexico City’s “special songs” were better. Hearing songs like Waves, Only One, Famous, Touch The Sky, Moon, STARS, FourFiveSeconds, and especially Come To Life just make it better than SoFi. Come To Life, STARS, and Only One in particular were performed perfectly in Mexico City and are definitely worth a listen. Of course when speaking about the setlist you can’t ignore SoFi’s special guests. Having Travis Scott come out for FATHER/FEIN was insane. Ceelo Green for BULLY was also super cool to see. Lauryn Hill was also fantastic, although I do think her and her son’s interlude lasted a little too long and was a tad awkward especially in the middle of a ye show.

At the end of the day though, these shows were both top notch concerts with their own ups and downs. Ye’s SoFi show was absolutely incredible and unexpected with just how good his second night would be (we don’t talk about night 1). However, I think Mexico City was just airtight and the best Ye show has put on in a long time (seriously, looking back at the Korea 2024 show that was lowkey mid but we were starving for ye holding a mic).

Thanks for reading! Disagree or agree? Lmk! I’d love to continue talking about these shows.
