Has anyone else been following the Eurasian Moorhen family in Holland Park?
I know there are two moorhen families in Holland Park at the moment. I am talking about the one in the pond near Lord Holland's statue. I saw the couple first few months ago, they started building a nest and after a while, they were incubating the eggs. About a month ago, the eggs were hatched and you could see chicks. Some were even swimming. Today I went there and all the 7 chicks have grown up (not matured yet, so beaks and feathers were grey). But I only saw one parent moorhen, who seems to be swimming near the NE bank of the pond and making an intermittent call continuously. It seemed that this one is looking for/calling after the other parent, and I'm worried that something happened to the other one. I have always seen both of them around the pond, so it's unlikely that the bird has gone anywhere. The call is hearbreaking.
I went back in about 15-20 minutes, and the cries have stopped apart from occassional calls, but I still can only see one adult. The chicks are now making chirping like sounds continuously, while swimming around.
Can someone reassure me if they see both adults later? I'm kind of attached now. Thanks!
