Many toys, especially those with preexisting stories, may not know they're toys, believing that they are as they were written.

Multiple iterations of Buzz know about star command and Zurg while unaware they are toys, Barbies and Kens have an instinctual connection and Barbies act like their outfits, in Toy Story That Time Forgot all Battlesaurs know their tribe's history for why they're fighting each and can sing their own theme song verbatim. Woody is a toy that's been passed down, most likely brought from when his TV show was still on the air but he doesn't know anything until he meets, his "friends" and they show him the TV show and the merchandise, merchandise that once decorated Andy's room. Why doesn't Woody know all of that already?
