I'm going to get an RV10 kit.

Ive got a great opportunity to buy a RV 10 kit that the owner lost interest in.

Overall discount / deal aside I'm pretty scared. I'm going to have into this plane about what my initial mortgage value of my house.

I'm competent with electrical and electronics. I'm absolute shit at high precision finish work, but I have a friend who will participate in the build who does well in that space.

I'm super excited, but super freaking out. I'd say talk me out of it, but I know it won't work.

Tell me what I need to know, or where I should start. I'm going to an eaa RV building class. The kit includes

Emp (mostly done)

Wings qb (control plus tanks, not complete wing)

Fuse QB

Finish kit not ordered

What y'all seeing for paint, interior, lights, avionics etc pricing budgets?

1985 M20J - Avionics upgrade

https://preview.redd.it/4g2ktp1b25ih1.png?width=1917&format=png&auto=webp&s=a53e2aa8d1c33e731305458b4d9606a1f040dadd

I've had my plane a couple years now, put 100hours on it this year, and got to find most of the bugs and after sitting 15 years in the desert find out what works and doesnt.

The engine doesnt appear its going to flat die on me, so I'm finally looking at the original Avionics for upgrade. I've thrown in a tailbeacon and a used KT76A to get by legally.

I had my heart set on a new dynon panel and AP, but at 45 AMU, I think that ship has sailed. The plane just doesnt warrant it.

Current Setup:

  • KY 197A: Comm1
  • KNS 80
  • KX 165: Comm2 / Nav
  • KAP 150: AP
  • KR 87: ADF
  • KT76A: Xponder
  • GDL50: ADSB In external unit

The plane has a KNS80 which is cool as hell, but the usable VOR availability is pretty bad where I am.

At this point I'm thinking of throwing a used GNX 375 in there to pick up GPS IFR capability while eliminating the tailbeacon, KT76A, and GDL50. This would allow me to keep the KNS80 for ILS and old school stuff.

Is this a reasonable approach? I want to use this to get my IFR ticket, but I also intended missions wont use it for long IFR flight. I just want to break the ceiling in both directions as needed.

Lastly, will the GNX work with the KAP to fly holds etc? Or does the GNX just send signal to an HSI and AP follows that?

Jbod enclosure safe shutdown

I have a cse847 jbod enclosure with jbod board as das. Once the main compute hardware goes down. Is it safe to just hold the power button until it cuts drive power? Or is there a safe way my drives should be shut off.

Drives will not spin down

I spent a couple million tokens with sonnet 5 because I'm not a real server admin.

Trying to figure out why my drives will not spin down with inactivity.

What the conclusion was is that the Unraid poll_attributes aka Smart monitoring for temp, errors, etc. Should be checking safe cache and not waking up drives but for some reason it is.

Any thoughts?

SM 847 Jbod - how much fan speed

I have a super micro 847j bod without a motherboard. It came with the original fan wall that had the Ford drive fans with this secondary add-on fan wall for the motherboard. I took the motherboard off so that just the primary fan wall will run. What fan speed are people using to keep the drives cool. No fans is not an option I found lol.

NVR / Security camera system.

I have a small homelab with excess compute and storage (don't shoot me).

I'm running unraid and have gotten decently comfortable with basic level stuff, but I'm willing to branch out.

I run a small business and would like to expand my security to a few security cameras, likely POE. I have a 1gig and 10gig network that I suspect can handle the bandwidth. Is unraid dockers a good setup for this? Can anyone make a decent recommendation on hardware and software to do this. My gate has a milesight camera that can be used for LPR but I've never set it up for anything other than the gate controller snapping pics when the gate is opened / closed.

Just looking for some ideas / guides to do it once and do it right.

[w] ~ 50-100Tb of 3.5" healthy drives

Just getting started, I've been spinning 2.5" 600 GB drives from like 2010. They are ultra low hour but they are filling up fast. I wanna get serious now that I've got comfortable, enjoy it and ready to invest.

Looking for fairly priced 8+ tb hdds that are reliable. They will be on all the time.

Can't catch a break, on vacation trying to snipe deals before their gone because I work for a living and can't sweat the reddit refresh button. All the good deals fly off the shelf in minutes.

Testing seagate externals prior to shucking

Got a guy selling couple dozen 8-10tb used external seagates that are reasonably priced.

What's the best way to go about testing before buying?

I can bring a windows laptop and plug in to test. I don't have a Linux, and not familiar with it enough to do much anyway.

Router and switch recommendation 10gb

I've been running hap ax3 at home for about a year now and I've been pretty happy with the software and configuration options as a home user.

However I also have been running an off site backup remote storage disaster recovery side business for a lot of my friends in business. My incoming wan connection is going up to 10 GB and I need some new hardware for the main compute racks and a few Nas that all support 10. By normal definition this is a tiny non-complicated Network without complex needs, there's only 5 or 10 total clients on the entire network and four of them are capable of 10 the rest 1 to 2.5.

I had toyed with copper but I think I'll just run more fiber. My existing fiber is os2 duplex single mode with simple LC connectors, so SFP and transceivers that all work together would be nice to have as one package order.

Thanks in advance.
