Enchanted Library by Joohour - completed
This is my third build and the one I've enjoyed most. A near-perfect mix of soothing repetition and mild challenge.
This kit would have been far more tedious if these books hadn't had stickers and would need to be glued and/or folded together. As is, there was a lot of it, but it wasn't hard to deal with.
Convex and concave shelf arrangement, and rhombus shapes of the books, added to the cool mirrored effect in the finished piece.
These little candles were my first real mod on any of my kits thus far. I had some extra "electrical wire" from the Kowloon kit (not sure how that happened, tbh), so I trimmed off the black part of the stickers you were supposed to roll up for the candle, and used bits of that as the wick instead.
More minor modifications. I wasn't hot to make this a "bargain basement Disney's Beauty and the Beast," though I admit that that aesthetic and various visual elements pervade the piece. I got rid of Chip, Mrs Potts, and Cogsworth on this table, and rearranged things a bit to cover the holes they left behind. I was especially pleased with my decision to have one of the maps dangling off the table. There's a smidge of edge painting on the book and white chess piece.
All done! The muted lighting is very nice. I wonder how the curator of this library gets from one place to another with that table in the way.
My able assistant, Harry. You may be shocked to hear he didn't disturb or play with anything. He was actually lying on my tube of glue and a set of books in progress. 😄
I felt that the designers checked out a bit when it came to the second tier, but the first tier is so stunning that I'll forgive that. I broke my first piece making this kit, and belatedly realized that Joohour had provided dupes of a number of the smaller pieces after the broken part had been meticulously repaired and installed.
