A F2P Guide for Eras

A F2P Guide for Eras

Introduction

With the Era of Myths & Legends ending in a couple weeks, I wanted to outline the F2P strategy I'm using to conclude this era with all obtainable units at relic levels. Hopefully (provided that CG doesn't change how materials are distributed during eras for the foreseeable future) other F2P players can benefit from this. I should preface that this guide is tailored to a subset of F2P players -- those who chase the 5-star legendary unlock.

Why Does This Matter?

Having all the new units at relics by the end of an era sets you up nicely to 7-star the legendary when their event first returns. It'll also make completing the era battles easier, which helps with the first point. Moreover, beating tier 4 right away nets you a bunch of extra zetas during the next era. Lastly, there's conquest. The new era units will almost certainly be required for conquest feats. At relics, these should prove far easier. Ultimately, this makes the red crate on hard mode more accessible.

The Goal

We want to end the era with 3 characters at EL 118, 1 character at EL 116, 2 characters at EL 101, and 1 character at EL 99. In other words, when the era units move into your roster, you should have 4 characters at relics and 3 characters at G11. Now, you will need G12 materials to upgrade 3 G11 characters, but since the era is 12 weeks (84 days) long, there should be no problem acquiring this from fleet nodes (even without refreshes) and/or raid currency. G11 materials are a nonissue these days and any kyrotech needed shouldn't be too bad either.

Who to Relic During the Era?

Before choosing which 4 characters to relic (i.e. take past EL 115), we need to consider how best to conserve G12 materials and kyrotech. You'll likely still need these for LST-ineligible characters. If you wish to prioritize coliseum performance over this, you may wind up spending a bit more kyrotech.

At the start of the era, go to swgoh.gg and look up the gear required for all the new era units. If a character requires kyrotech at G11, we'll aim to relic them. After that, we can look to G12 and make sure we don't spend too much of the gear required for other farms. This era, only one character (Darth Jar Jar) needed kyrotech at G11, so chances are this may not be a huge issue.

Era Materials

This process optimizes how the following era materials are spent: Era Level Currency (ELC), Mk VI Besh Ability Modules (BAM), and Mk VII Aurek Ability Modules (AAM). Throughout the era, coliseum gives you 20000 BAM (after completing tier 10 for all bosses) while the legendary event gives you 6000. You also get 6700 AAM from the legendary event. Tier 3 of the sixth marquee event will also grant a total of 1020 BAM (assuming you 4-star that marquee on day one), bringing our grand total to 27020. I should note that I do 5-star the last marquee because I (a) have enough crystal income to do it, (b) want the post-era shard farming to go smoother, and (c) am a sucker for the rare shiny portrait and title. If you don't want to use crystals on the last marquee, then the goal becomes 3 characters at EL 118, 1 character at EL 116, and 3 characters at EL 99.

Upgrading a character to EL 116 requires 6000 BAM and 1050 AAM. For EL 118, it's 6000 BAM and 1800 AAM. For EL 101 and EL 99 it is 1050 and 500 BAM respectively. To achieve our goal, we will spend a total of 26600 BAM and 6450 AAM. The ELC is a little trickier to track but it is possible to hit all the target era levels with all the free ELC you obtain during the era -- and I do mean all. Missing dailies or episode quests may mean spending crystals on ELC, which I try to avoid. I should note that for this era, I will only have around 66700 ELC leftover, so the margin of error is relatively small. Always check to make sure you have enough ELC during the final episode of the era.

Conclusion

This guide was written mostly for players similar to me. F2P folks on the lower end of Kyber / upper end of Aurodium who place high in fleet arena and want to obtain the new legendary units. Though my strategy is not well-tested (the sample size is literally one person), I can assure you it definitely worked for me. As such, I invite others like me to at least give this a try next era. I also know that CG (who are only ever consistent at being inconsistent) may upend this process at any moment, but if most future eras look similar to this one, it'll be more than worth it. Good luck with the next era, everyone!
