Paperboys (Album Review)

This caught me so off guard. Whatever, of course most of the songs in here aren't new, but here is my short review of each song and the album in general:

  1. Stuntman 8.7/10: Just a great song, with an awesome beat and lyricism.
  2. Perfect Timing 8.9/10: Put Connor, Nic and Graham in one song, there's no way it won't be a banger. Their lyricism isn't their best on here, but the flows, the beat, the chorus, everything is else is perfect (no pun intended).
  3. Scoop 8.7/10: Probably the most popular of the album. The back 'n' forth hits. Also, this is one of the more bar-heavy songs on this entire album. The beat is from my least favorite aspects of the song. Overall, another great song.
  4. Talk 8.5/10: I really like the consistency in this song. It's very smooth, it has great flows and bars. The beat is great and the chorus is good. The only thing holding it back is that it's too recent for me to like it more than some of the older ones on here.
  5. Hop Out 9.2/10: Probably my favorite of the album. I love the chorus. Both Connor and Nic have unmatched swag on this one. I love the vibes of this song too. It's not too bar-heavy, but it doesn't need to be. Excellent song.
  6. Upgrade 8.6/10: The most underrated song in the album. What I mostly love about this song is Nic. The chorus and pre-chorus make this song special. I also love the beat. Connor's verse is good, but I escpecially like the part in the end where he speeds up a little. Another great song!
  7. All About 8.7/10: Wow. This song really surprised me. Connor and Nic touch subjects they've never really talked about before. What I love most about this song is the chorus, because it has a nostalgic, chill vibe, and Connor's verse. I feel like this song might become one of the most underappreciated songs on the album, but I absolutely love it.
  8. Slide 8.3/10: The first one that released from the album. It's chill, smooth, has great flows but not too bar-heavy. It's probably the weakest so far, still it's very good of course, mainly because the chorus isn't anything that memorable and the song doesn't have as much personality as the rest of the songs before it. Still great!
  9. No Middleman 7.8/10: Very groovy song. Unfortunately, it gets old quite fast. Love both of the verses, but what I think holds it back is the chorus and pre-chorus. Still a song I would listen to, but not on repeat.
  10. Luv U 8.4/10: One of the most underrated ones on Paperboys. Very similar vibes to Slide and Upgrade. What elevates this song for me is Connor's verse. The chorus and Nic's verse are pretty good. This song, depending on my mood, can go from like an 8.0 to an 8.8, so I just kinda put the average.
  11. Ride 9.0/10: One of their best songs lyrically ever. Of course most bar-heavy on the album. Flows that fit, great beat and awesome back 'n' forth. Everything in this song sticks together very well. The ending is also great. Just for the purpose of the skit in the music video, I think Connor slightly out-rapped Nic, just saying...
  12. Old Ways 8.7/10: Another very underrated one. To be fair, I have a soft spot for these type of nostalgic-vibe songs, especially during summer-time. When this came out I remember listening to it non-stop, maybe if I had listened to it less I'd rate it even higher.
  13. 100 Problems 7.9/10: I know why this song is kind of hated, it's way too different from the rest in Connor and Nic's collab catalog. But, Nic and Connor deliever here. The subject of the song is one they've never talked about. Only problem is that it's a little forgetable and, while both of their voices are great, their singing is pretty standard.

Album songs average: 8.6/10

My Personal Album Rating: 8.9/10

Conclusion: Definetely one of the best in Connor's and Nic's catalog. I'd say I like it a little less than 'About Time'. I really like how it starts off with the more vibey songs and slowly the listener learns more about Connor and Nic. That journey peaks in 'Old Ways' and '100 Problems'. It has variety, great production and has absolutely no skips.

Best Song: Hop Out

Worst Song: No Middleman

Those ratings on aoty on the early Connor Price songs are extremely low for no reason. I really shouldn't be angry about ratings, but... HOW DO YOU GIVE LOVE LANGUAGE AND TALK ABOUT US A 47, EASTERN AVE NIGHT DRIVE A 46 AND EGOT ONLY 68? Also, I don't love Happy Alone, but a 37 is criminal. The rest of the ratings are fine, it just feels like people are biased against old, pre-quarantine Connor Price songs.. (also forgot to talk about ROOTS GETTING A 40????)
