I used to love my Kindle, but the licensing is a roadblock

I used to love reading on my Kindle but since they've changed to a license model, I have a mental block to 'buying' anything from them. That I don't actually own the book bothers me so much I can't seem to go back to it, even though I want to read on it. All the logical arguments about why it's ok fall on my deaf emotional ears.

Is there an ereader and ebook provider where you actually own the books, where they can't take them away or update the version?

(And yes, I know physical is the ultimate answer to this and I own physical copies of my treasured books, but my space isn't big enough for all the books I actually want).

Reading Journal Conundrum

I am always in a struggle when I read. I want to be able to capture quotes, ideas and summaries but I often read more than one book at once. So, being able to leave enough room in a notebook for future pages of one book and still be able to write on another literally keeps me from reading at all. (I have about 10 books I've started and stopped because my brain is stuck on this)

I'm good with ring binders and happy planner type bindings in order to be able to add and remove pages as needed, BUT what I struggle with is that they tend to be too bulk or big to carry around. I'd love something that fits nicely in my hand while carrying a book. Here are some thoughts and I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations:

- Ring or moveable pages

- Personal, B6, Bible size. Something along those lines. A5 is too big and pocket too small.

- Thin enough and able to have the cover flipped back for writing on small space
