[Update - Kumquat dying?]

I pulled the tree out of the pot and I’m looking at the roots. I honestly don’t know what I’m looking at. This is an update to my previous post regarding the top of the tree dying back.

I don’t see anything that looks like rot or distress, but I admit I’m very new to plants and unsure what root rot would look like if I saw it. Again, any advice is welcome!

Kumquat dying?

I live just south of Atlanta and growing zone eight a/B. This kumquat tree was looking very healthy and doing well all spring and summer until about three weeks ago that leaves and kumquats dropped off of it and some of the branches seem to be dying back. Any advice is welcome!

Why no new growth?

I bought two avocado trees in the late spring from the same grower. They are in the same soil and have lived next to each other on the same patio all summer.

I’m just south of Atlanta and I plan to put them in a greenhouse over the winter.

The only difference I can see is that I got the Oro Negro in the barrel, off the concrete about 3 months ago (it’s still in the original pot), and the Mexicola Grande is sitting on the concrete.

Now that the summer temps are cooling a bit, the Oro Negro had tons of new growth. The Mexicola Grande seems dormant and has had no new growth the whole time I’ve had it. It’s had no buds and no fruit. (Oro negro is 1.5 years old, and Mexicola Grande is 2.5 years old.)

I would love some advice and insights. The Mexicola also has slight yellowing on the leaves, while the Oro has 4 leaves with these large brown spots.

I’m posting the Oro pics first, then the Mexicola.

Thanks in advance for your replies!
