How I Got a 5-6% Reply Rate in the Initial Days if Cold Emailing? Part - 2

In the last post, I mentioned a very small trick that works almost every time, but people ignore it because it’s too basic (even though it’s effective).

If anyone hasn’t seen the post, here you go:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Coldemailing/s/Eopce0FtIU

Now I’ll talk about the second method that helped me while writing cold emails.

SUBJECT LINE.

I know many of you have heard about subject lines, but still beginners make mistakes while writing them. They write very generic lines like:

“Hey {Name}, saw {something} about your business”

“Saw your {BusinessName} here”

Very generic or shit subject lines.

I found a very simple trick that works really well, adding “Imp:” before the subject line, like:

“Imp: {Name}, Got Something Important for You!!”

or

“Imp: {Name}, Is This True?”

Notice the difference?

Adding “Imp:” at the beginning makes your lead feel like the email came from an important source. They’ll open it, read your email, and if they find something valuable. Boom, you got a reply.

And even if they don’t reply, at least your open rate increases.

And if your open rate increases but your reply rate doesn’t, that usually means there’s a problem with your offer and I’ll cover that in the next post on how you can make your email in such a way that your reply rate increases.

Also, comment below what you think about this trick. And if you know any other tricks, mention that too so others can learn more.

How I Got a 5-6% Reply Rate in the Initial Days of Cold Emailing?

This is basic, but most people completely skip this part.

Around Jan 2026, I got back into the cold emailing space after taking a 1 year break. From the very beginning, I was getting around a 5 to 6% reply rate, and that too completely MANUALLY. Yes, manually. 0 automation used.

I booked a few meetings, got some inquiries, and all of this happened during the initial stage itself. Also, my script was not highly personalized or anything extraordinary. It was decent, but definitely not perfect.

Still, I managed to get replies and book meetings.

The only thing was that I was not too good at sales back then, so I could not close those deals properly.

But the main question is:

How did I get that reply rate?

The answer is simple.

TIMINGS

Timing plays a HUGE role in cold emailing.

Most people completely ignore this and just schedule emails randomly between certain hours like 10 PM to 4 AM, hoping something works.

That is the lazy way to do it.

What I did was different.

I found my prospects' locations and sent emails according to their local timing.

If someone was in North Carolina, the email was sent according to North Carolina timing.

If someone was in Texas, it matched Texas timing.

If they were in New York, it matched New York timing.

But the important part is this:

I mainly sent emails during only two specific windows.

Either when they had just started their workday, or when they had returned home from work and were relaxing.

Nothing in between.

I avoided sending emails during busy working hours because that is when people are overloaded with meetings, tasks, notifications, and hundreds of emails.

During those hours, your email simply becomes another unread message sitting in their inbox.

But early in the workday, people are more attentive.

And after work, when they are relaxing and casually scrolling on their phones, they are mentally more open to reading something interesting.

So if they suddenly saw a creative email at that moment, there was a much higher chance they would open it and reply.

Of course, your subject line also matters a lot.

If your subject line is boring, they will not even open the email in the first place.

A lot of people say prospects do not work after they get home, and I agree.

But think about it this way.

If you were relaxing and suddenly got an opportunity that could potentially make you money or help your business grow, would you completely ignore it?

Probably not.

You would at least check it out.

Maybe the opportunity is amazing.

Maybe it is terrible.

But you would still give it a look first.

That is exactly the psychology I used.

And because of that, I managed to get a solid reply rate in the early days of cold emailing, while many beginners struggle to even cross a 1% reply rate.
