Pogue’s Puppy Psychiatrist Appointment

Yesterday Pogue went to see the behaviorist. He does not have separation anxiety, she thinks he has something more akin to an attachment disorder. His anxiety is so severe that he’s on two psych meds to try to help him, but she views it as an emergency situation and said that if meds do not seem to help him the kindest thing may be to consider euthanasia. She thinks a board and train could be catastrophic for a dog like him. He took his meds last night, and we happened to have a big thunderstorm. He was clearly doped up, but didn’t react to the loud sounds so we will consider that a win for now. She said he was well ahead of most dogs that she sees as well as training and how well he listens, and he’s also EXCEPTIONALLY food motivated she he can be convinced to do things as long as his fear doesn’t overwhelm him. He has to learn to wear a basket muzzle most of the time in order to be around the cats, and we had already been working with him on that.

So cross your fingers for him I guess!

Rescues? Rehoming? Help.

Today my OES Pogue attacked my cat after living peacefully with cats for two years. I know he is on edge because my husband - his sheep - is injured and left the house alone for the first time today. He was crying and looking for him all morning. Regardless we cannot have a dog that can’t be trusted with cats (we have four). I’m not really sure what to do because he definitely couldn’t be in a home with cats, and he also is same sex dog aggressive so homes without male dogs or cats would be his only options. We adore him, he is a wonderful, affectionate dog but we cannot have the cats in danger. We are located in Ohio.

Do you think a Sheepie rescue would take him? Or do you think we will be able to find a good home for him? I am super stressed over this and heartbroken that we will need to find him a new home.

Is anyone else frustrated that our wonderful breed is being “doodled”? They are already fluffy and non-shedding, so WHY do this to them? Just get a Sheepie and keep it in a puppy cut! I can’t wrap my mind around why anyone ever thought “doodling” a Sheepie was a necessary endeavor.

We’ve been extremely busy because my husband is injured and non-weight bearing for the next couple months, so we decided to give him a cut that required minimal maintenance. I think he looks SO CUTE, and as always he was a perfect gentleman for the groomer.

It always makes me laugh that these guys look like sighthounds when they’re shaved. haha

Ps. Ignore my dirty pants, I’m a dirty tradeswoman during the day.

Can anyone ID this? If it is Rivercane is it wise to plant some in my backyard or is it likely to take over like other types of bamboo? Thanks!
