Hi everyone

I plan to run first DnD campaign in years. I find rules in Xanathar's Guide to everything quite easy to understand but I wonder - how many encounters does it assume per infamous adventuring day? Has anyone figured it out?

By the way I feel overhelmed by various supplements by both WoTC and third party. Especially number of monsters. Which one do you use and appreciate? Do you have any methods for looking for appropriate monsters?

I would also appreciate books with good homebrew guidelines and a lot of regular humanoid NPC statblocks

Perhaps I am not first but on the surface all seems the same.
