Beginner training - torn about what to do with bike setup

Hi all, I'm a complete beginner to triathlon training. I have run 3 half marathons at a pretty good pace (1:35) and 2 marathons at a decent, but less impressive pace (3:45). I have heard horror stories about runners hip, knee issues after years of overuse.

I want to get into triathalons to stay in shape but spread the load of impact so to speak.

My question is about a bike purchase. I currently have a hybrid bike I have used recreationally, but realize at some point I will need to buy a road bike (or triathalon bike, although I'm not sure I will ever buy a tri specific bike). As money is not unlimited, I was thinking about a few things:

  1. Sell my hybrid bike for a road bike. My holdup with this: if I don't stick with triathalons, road bikes are less versatile and then would not want to be in the situation where I end up wanting a hybrid bike.
  2. Stick with my hybrid bike for training, sign up for a triathalon, purchase a road bike closer to race day. Now I have 2 bikes
  3. Keep the hybrid bike and buy some kind of indoor trainer that resembles a road bike. If I end up enjoying triathalons, sell my hybrid bike down the road, buy a road bike, and now I am equipped for indoor and outdoor use.

I know I am probably overcomplicating things - but in a world where budget is an issue, I just don't want to make any expensive mistakes. Would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Is road biking as dangerous as it looks?

Hi all, Im a marathon runner here looking to get into triathlons and Ironmans. I have a hybrid bike but am looking at beginner road bikes. My problem is, whenever I see road bikers biking on roads near me, it always seems so unsafe. I always drive slow and am careful around them but other cars do not seem to follow these same rules.

Are there certain parts of PGH where it is safer to bike on roads? Do you get used to the dangerousness? Or are there ways to manage this? Would appreciate any advice.

Any critiques of my program this summer? I'm coming off of marathon training where I was running 50-60 miles a week and lifting full body 2x.

Want to go into a running maintenance phase where I'm focusing on weights and only running 3x a week, mileage will slowly increase from 20-30 mpw over the next 12 weeks. I love being in the gym so drafted up this PPL UL - at first I tried UL UL but honestly the extra upper day doesn't add that much volume and allows the upper body workouts to be a bit shorter. My only other thought was doing a 3x plan - 2x full body, one upper body only day.

Should be able to recover from this, and it seems well spread out, but would love to hear any thoughts.
