How would you approach link building for a small independent boxing website?
Hi everyone, I run a UK boxing website covering fight previews, news, rankings and tools such as a boxing weight-class calculator.
The site is around 16 months old and has got 16k clicks from only Google. It’s a personal project and hasn’t generated any revenue yet, so I’m working with a limited budget.
I’d appreciate advice on two things:
Building links: What would you prioritise at this stage? Outreach to boxing sites, guest articles, journalist requests or creating useful tools and original data? Is paying the only way?
Monetisation: I’m struggling to monetise the site and have wondered whether selling link placements or sponsored articles is worth considering. Would there realistically be demand at this size?
I’d also like to understand the SEO risks and whether sponsored content is a better route than adding paid links to existing articles. Any practical examples from people who’ve grown or monetised a small sports site would be really helpful.
