Turbo or all motor?
Need some opinions from people that have actually lived with these setups.
I have a fully swapped K24 GSR Integra DC2 with a super short RSX Type S trans, 4.7 final drive, LSD, lightweight flywheel, suspension setup, etc. The car was originally built with more of a “fast street car” mindset, but after my timing chain snapped I’m at a crossroads on what direction I wanna take the rebuild.
I originally always wanted to go turbo because obviously I wanted the car to be FAST fast and get those crazy reactions from passengers/other people. But the more I think about it, the more I realize I genuinely enjoy the spirited driving/backroad/corner carving aspect of the car more than straight line pulls.
Part of me wants to stay all motor and lean harder into that direction. Maybe K20 head, cams, good oiling setup, keep my current trans/header/flywheel/etc and shoot for around 280-300whp with a super responsive setup.
The other part of me still wants boost though. I’ve thought about maybe doing a smaller turbo setup around 350-400whp instead of a huge dyno chasing setup. Also briefly considered supercharger.
My biggest concern with turbo is ruining the character of the car. I don’t want it turning into something that just spins constantly, breaks parts, overheats, and only feels good in a straight line. I honestly feel like maybe a future 240 would make more sense for the full turbo/high horsepower route.
Another thing is I’d basically have to change my whole setup if I went turbo. Different trans setup/gearing, manifold, turbo kit, built motor, supporting mods, etc. Right now the car feels really matched together for a responsive all motor setup, especially with the 4.7 final drive and short gearing.
For the people that have actually owned both types of setups, what ended up being more FUN long term? Not just faster on paper.
