I am primarily a portrait photographer that got into birds about half a year ago. So far I have been making do with the 70-200 gmii with the 1.4x tc as my go to gear in New York State. I am looking to finally get a longer telephoto lens primarily for birds for my upcoming 4 month long trip to SoCal but I am not too sure whether to go with the 200-600 or the 400-800. My primary concern is upon my return to New York, it will be hard for me to continue utilizing the 400-800 due to the aperture since lighting within the forests are not great. Also curious how much of a difference the extra 200mm on the long end makes if intend to take photos of birds in flight.
