Looking for a short story from a 1970s or earlier SF anthology. A man wakes up transformed into a real elephant (Kafka-style). He is distressed, trapped in his apartment, accidentally damages things with his trunk, later prevents an attack or mugging on a woman (possibly his girlfriend), and then turns back into a human.
