My best friend finally has her own one-bedroom apartment after five years of roommate roulette. She's so proud of it. Sent me a video tour where she narrated every empty room like she was hosting a home show.

The place is great but her walls are blank. Like, aggressively blank. She keeps saying she'll 'get around to decorating' but I know her. She's been saying that about her closet for two years.

I want to get her something for her living room that makes the space feel more like hers. She's into simple, modern stuff. Clean lines, neutral colors, nothing too busy. A framed canvas print feels right because it's one less thing she has to think about (no framing, no hunting for the right size).

Budget is $20-30. She's not into abstract art or anything too trendy that'll look dated in a year. Something with a simple phrase or minimalist design would work. She loves typography and quotes that aren't cheesy.

Has anyone gifted wall art successfully? How do you know what someone's taste is without asking directly and ruining the surprise?
