Great grandma’s cast iron

Hey everyone, I called dibs on my great grandma Nina’s cast iron skillet. She used it a lot and was an everyday cooker. Not sure where to begin or what I should do before I start cooking in it? The bottom looks smooth and almost shiny and not like my parents cast iron which is newer. Thank you!!

Heatwaves during gilded age?

I was just thinking of how many of us are experiencing hot temperatures and what in the world they must have done during the gilded age or pretty much any time period before 1960? Thinking of their dresses, all the layers, I simply can’t imagine dressing like that and being in this current humidity. When I step outside I’m sweating. It almost gives me anxiety!! I imagine coming home and ripping off all my petticoats and taking a bath? I have honestly no idea what I would have done!! Does anyone have any insights as to what they did to beat the heat?

Alternative to aquaphor in the mornings?

I am finally doing Tret every other night (0.025) and loving it!! I don’t put on anything after and wait til the morning to slug/put aquaphor on. However!! I hate the feeling of it and I dont like putting on spf on top. It just feels so heavy and not sure if it maybe competes with the spf. What does everyone else do? Especially if you wear makeup? I am a teacher so in the summers I barely wear makeup. When school starts again, I go back to wearing it 5 days a week 😭 and I definitely cant put on aquaphor before makeup. So basically, I want my cake and eat it too. I don’t want dry skin but also don’t want to feel the heaviness of aquaphor. Also does anyone notice weird increased amount of sweating in the morning after applying spf?
