Help a man who has helped all of us

Tony Sneidar is many things, over 35+ years of service to his country, community, and fellows. Army veteran, retired firefighter, fire chief, and deputy commissioner, and most importantly, my best friend. A week ago he was in a horrific UTV accident and was in a full coma on life support, he’s doing better now, able to open eyes and following simple instructions.

However, the path forward is unknown, Tony never got VA healthcare as he always believed others deserved it more than him, and now it’s up to private insurances to cover. His wife, Patti, is the sweetest woman on earth, we’re asking for less than 10,000 to keep her floating over the next few months or so while he’s out of commission. If you can, please keep Tony in your hearts and thoughts, and if you have the availability to, donate please. Thank you, you’re all amazing, you’re all the good people, keep carrying the torch.

Something went bump in the night and now a stranger is in my bed

My wife is in bed with another man.
My wife is in bed with me.

It’s one of those nights. You’re tired, but you can’t sleep. The kind of night where the subtle dim of your air conditioner unit, your ceiling fan, and your wife next to you should lull you into soft numbness and uncomfortable silence in your torn head. Yet, that silence won’t come.

I exist, I know that, myself and my wife exist. I heard something, something went bump in the night. I know it sounds childish, but I swear to you, I heard THAT bump in the night, the bump from your grandma’s house, the one with the discovery channel blue glow softly buzzing into a creepy, too big of a guest bedroom for a preteen, kind of bump. The bump you hear when you’re sneaking onto the cupboards of your dingy house to grab the last honey bun on the top shelf that your siblings hid, and you hear the bump in the night, stairs creak, house shake, something you know of that is the bump.

I heard my bump, I don’t have any guns in the house, not after what happened before, and I panicked slightly. My wife was snoring peacefully, and I walked out of my bedroom, clad in a torn Hawaiian shirt bought from a far away land by a younger kid who thought he played patriot. Armed with my curtain rod in hand, I cleared right and then left, slinked down my steps, all the lights were off. That’s good. I wait, nothing. I go around the house and hear the blissful silence of a cool summer night. Then I hear it, the bump, I know I heard it, who couldn’t hear it? It came from upstairs l. I crawled up the steps, now armed with a hammer, and saw my bedroom door cracked. I glimpsed a shadow in my bedroom. The door, I have to open the door.

The bump was from my bedroom, the door opened I see it now, me. I see me laying in bed with my wife a large grin on my face. No that’s not right that can’t be right, I’m alive I’m standing here at the top of the stairs in a Hawaiian shirt with a hammer, this THING, this mockery, this BUMP, is in BED WITH MY WIFE. I stand over the monster from my childhood and fears, I stand over myself, soulless black eyes, and then I raise the hammer. It opens its mouth, and lets out the sharpest, longest, bump in the night. I feel the hammer connect with meat, soft impact as. I feel bone make way, and then disappear into nothing, hitting my mattress frame. My wife now wide awake, screams at me in distress and panic, seeing her half naked hammer wielding husband.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING”

Sorry, I heard something downstairs

(First ever story writing outside of a few papers in college, based on a walking nightmare I had earlier, advice greatly appreciated and welcome :D)
