Campism

Question: why does the ACP follow a campist line (the enemy of my enemy is my friend) when it comes to regimes that violate human rights (North Korea, Iran, Russia). Just because a country is against the US and NATO doesn’t automatically make them worth a socialists time defending.

Serious question for y’all

I tried posting this earlier from a diff Reddit acct but it wouldn’t let me so sorry if you briefly saw this.

I want to say upfront that I’m not trying to be provocative or start an argument. I’m genuinely trying to understand where my political and religious beliefs fit together.

I was a socialist for many years before becoming a Christian, and since then I’ve struggled with how to reconcile some of my beliefs. I still identify strongly with many aspects of socialism, especially economic equality, solidarity, workers’ rights, and concern for people who are marginalized or disadvantaged.

Where I struggle is with some social issues, particularly questions surrounding sex, gender, and abortion.

As a Christian, I believe that God created humanity as male and female. At the same time, I believe LGBTQ people deserve dignity, equality, safety, and protection from hatred and discrimination. I don’t want my religious beliefs about sex and gender to be an excuse for treating anyone poorly.

I’m also personally opposed to abortion in most circumstances, although I don’t believe the government should impose my religious beliefs on everyone else. I would describe myself as personally pro-life but politically pro-choice. Ideally, I’d like to see fewer abortions through things like stronger social support, better resources for families, and addressing the circumstances that lead people to seek abortions.

I realize that some of these views may put me outside the mainstream of certain socialist communities, and that’s part of why I’m struggling to figure out where I fit.

Can someone be a socialist while also holding these?

I’m genuinely looking for perspective and resources rather than trying to convince anyone to agree with me.
