My Upwork account has been blocked while I’m going through verification, and I’m trying to figure out what options I have.

I have never knowingly engaged in any abnormal activity on Upwork. They asked me to provide proof of address, specifically a bill or similar document in my name.

The problem is that I currently live with my mother and daughter, and the household bills are all in my mother’s name. My mother has also remarried and changed her last name, so her bill doesn’t match my name and apparently can’t be used for my verification.

I’ve already submitted several documents that are actually in my name, including my government ID, health insurance documentation, PayPal information, and Chime transaction records, but they were rejected.

I understand why Upwork needs to verify my identity and location, and I’m willing to cooperate. My problem is simply that I don't have a utility bill in my own name because I live in my mom's household.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Were you able to get your account verified without having a utility bill in your own name? Did Upwork accept another type of document or offer an alternative verification method?

I’m also wondering whether requesting a manual review or video verification would help.

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Upwork's current help documentation says that proof of address can include a recent bank statement, credit-card statement, utility bill, or another qualifying monthly bill, but the document needs to show the freelancer's name and address.
