Fall 2022 Mixtape Changed my Life
A month before COVID, February 2020, my buddy gifted our other friend Brightest Lights on Vinyl. He had a setup.
I knew The Road and maybe 2 other singles.
We went on a house boat that summer, care free, and Brightest Lights had made it’s way through the JBL countless times.
I was an Apple Music guy, still am. That’s boded well as a fan to be honest. Apple gang, you get it.
I’d moved to Vancouver January 2020, met some good guys. But these lads were pretty new, I had one mutual friend. Whatever. These guys liked skiing. Serious business skiing. Learned to shred pretty well.
Year passes.
Buds in (headphones, cords) no airpods yet. Whistler Season’s pass, you have to.
Lane 8 (my friend’s always called him ocho, I stuck with it), drops Winter 2021.
Addiction takes hold. For some reason I remember falling in love with the Qrion track as my start, would see her in Stanley Park (proper) soon enough.
But fast forward 3 seasons.
Fall 2022 Mixtape would change my life.
New JBL acquired I’m a super fan of Lane 8 at this point. Running the sea wall, this dude is HIM.
Fall 2022 drops, and to this day in 2026, I don’t think I’ve heard a better run from front to back. Vice grip on me, there’s no compilation as good as Fall 2022.
I can start 00:00, Scythe, Caramel, or Ellie, and say “buckle up” to anyone listening, every single time.
No skips, common. Face in palms? Every song for me.
The last hour of this tape rocks. Like euphorically, its epic.
I truly think it’s the best work Daniel is ever gonna drop for me, and that’s ok. It’s gas. I got a tattoo of the TNH logo in 2023. Left thigh. Filled the now half-sleeve there.
It was genuinely because of the Fall 2022 tape.
I have hundreds of spins on it.
Fast forward… I moved to Toronto for work. A year in I flew back to Vancouver again with the new girlfriend, to see Lane 8, back where it started, Stanley Park.
