How important is edging in the beginning?

I have the cardboard. I have the mulch. I have a new (to me) home with a huge yard that is begging to be transformed. I have a plan that includes starting small.

What I don’t have is the money or, if I’m being honest, the energy to install edging around the areas I want to start on. I feel like I shouldn’t start sheet mulching if I can’t keep it “contained”. Am I overthinking it?

I’m right on the border of 5b/6a if that matters.

How to navigate neighbor’s downed tree branch on my side of my new property?

I only just moved into my home 3 months ago. About a month ago, we experienced severe storms (that produced 19 tornados) and a branch from my neighbor’s tree fell against their house, but on also kind of on our property line. They put out a sign for free firewood and someone came and took the main branch, but left all of the leafy branches on my side of the property.

I have not met this neighbor yet. I want to say wtf, but I also don’t want to start our relationship on a negative note if I can help it.

I already had to drop $600 removing my own tree limb from my backyard from the same storm. I can’t afford to pay to remove theirs.

Any suggestions on how to broach this without creating animosity?
