Overactive Nervous System

Has anyone here tried moxonidine or pregabalin for calming down an overactive nervous system?

A week ago, I tried propranolol, which is a non-selective β-blocker, and it had a significant effect on my anxiety, brain fog, and most of my other symptoms. However, propranolol mainly blocks the effects of the stress response.

As for moxonidine and pregabalin, they seem to work further upstream and may target the actual cause of the anxiety response and possibly prevent the whole cascade of symptoms from being triggered.

Pregabalin is an analogue of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the body's main inhibitory neurotransmitter. It helps stabilize an overactive nervous system.

Moxonidine suppresses sympathetic nervous system activity and helps bring the body out of the constant "fight-or-flight" state.

In theory, these two medications should be very helpful for an overactivated nervous system and might relieve most symptoms. In my case, the only thing that has consistently helped has been taurine. During the first few days of taking it, it almost completely eliminated my symptoms for the first time in many years (anxiety, palpitations, brain fog, etc.). However, taurine has only a mild effect on the nervous system and isn't strong enough to counter such a severe sympathetic overactivation.

These medications seem to have a much stronger effect on the nervous system. I may try them in the future, but I'm curious whether anyone here has already used either of them.

What was your experience?

brain fog

Has anyone tried Vinpocetine for brain fog?

It’s a supplement/medication that is said to improve glucose uptake in the brain and also dilate cerebral blood vessels, which may increase oxygen delivery to the brain.

I previously tried Ginkgo Biloba, and it actually helped — my concentration improved and the brain fog got better. However, it caused a skin rash, so I had to stop taking it.

Now I’m considering trying Vinpocetine because it seems to have similar effects, but supposedly stronger.

Does anyone have experience with Vinpocetine? What results and side effects did you notice?
