Can anyone recommend decent headphones for mixing low-end/bass frequencies - accurate monitoring

I do a lot of rock music mixing on my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones, great for nearly everything apart from bass frequencies.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend anything that's not gonna set me back hundreds and hundreds of monies.

Cheers!

Looking for mixing ears on heavy progressive rock track (particularly the bass)

Hi all,

As per the title, this track is in the late mixing stage and I'm just looking for some thoughts on general mixing, I guess in particular the bass, which is the area I struggle with the most in mixing.

I appreciate as this is a longer track it might not be for some to listen all the way through (circa 7 mins).

Thanks for your assistance :)

How do you deal with clients or their other suppliers who have a tiny amount of experience in your niche, and therefore decide they know best?

I'm a fifteen-years full time expert in my sector. I'm very good at what I do and therefore I am lucky to have some big clients on my retainer, and they tend to come to me directly rather than me having to pitch. I'm in a very lucky position.

But my biggest bugbear is personalities who deviate from their position and expertise and decide to make decisions on behalf of the people who are being paid to plan and execute those decisions (I.e me). For example, you might have a client who has employed another freelancer or an in-house person who is aware of your niche, but lacks the actual experience and fundamental technical requirements to carry out it out safely and to be able to see how it will unravel. But for whatever reasons - ego, wanting to impress everyone, etc - they are constantly making suggestions or questioning the proven strategy/your experience, when they have been paid to do their own totally separate job.

It is my number one bugbear and while it doesn't happen too often, when it does it really grinds my gears. It's not that I don't ever want to be questioned (I encourage that, sometimes a non-experienced viewpoint can make you see outside the box), it's more that inevitably you have to stop what you're doing, retreat your old proven ground, then spend at least an hour justifying your decisions wasting time off the project on political stability.

Most annoyingly, these people seem to have sway amongst your key contact at the company, and can convince them of anything, even though you've already made other recommendations. For example, I just had someone convince my main contact to sign off on an activity that I know from experience will waste them several thousand in revenue and they won't get a penny of it back. I told them twice that this is not recommended. But this other person has talked them into it citing irrelevant, non-nonsensical reasoning that sounds like they picked it up from an influencer, not the technical expert they are paying to make these nuanced decisions (i.e. me).

There have been times where I've almost said "my professional recommendation has already been stated that no, we should not do this - but if you want really want to try this out, on your head be it".

Is it just me? Maybe I need to learn to turn the other cheek and not get so annoyed about it lol.

Dear Bandcamp Users - 50 free download codes for progressive rock track

Hi, I hope this is okay to post on this subreddit.

As per the title, my band (Guild Theory) has some leftover codes from our last release, please help yourself to them if you like progressive rock tracks with shifting time signatures and a satisfying climax 😄

The song is called The Sign & The Seal, and you can listen to it here: https://guildtheory.bandcamp.com/track/sign-the-seal

You can redeem a code here: https://guildtheory.bandcamp.com/yum

The Sign & The Seal is a conceptual song about searching for the lost ark and other mythical treasures.

Guild Theory is a UK-based alternative/progressive/post-rock band. We have released 2 concept albums, and 2 EPs. Our latest EP, Hardback Books, sees a more folk-inspired tone, but with our signature progressive style still intact.

We are currently working on our follow-up EP. And will soon be announcing tour dates.

If you use a code, do please comment so I can edit the post and strike it through here to make it easier for others.

Thanks everyone, and we hope you enjoy this track.

I want the watch the main storyline but not skip some awesome MOTW episodes. What's the best list?

I haven't watched passed the original airing of season 6.

I'd like to rewatch the whole thing but can't be arsed with all the filler bad MOTW episodes.

Has someone put an ultimate list that includes not only the main storyline but some crucial episodes not necessarily related?

Thanks!

If you decide to downsize your clients, how would you go about culling the ones you no longer want to work with?

Curious to know how you'd go about it.

I'm at my limit and want to free up some time. All of my busy busy clients rely on me a lot and while I earn a nice amount of money from them, I am happy to take the financial hit in favour of my mental health.

Just wondering how you'd go about cutting down the work and explaining to your clients why.

Rock / metal producers - do you have a process or go-to method for ensuring your bass is well-rounded and at the right levels?

I'm in the alt rock space and never have issues with mixing any other instruments. But bass often eludes me. I think it's a mix of my headphones and maybe I struggle with lower frequency mixing. It's either too bass-heavy, too wide, too boomy, or just lacking character.

I get there eventually with my final mixes, but only after a lot of comparing on different speakers and reference mixes and many, many tweaks. Often I just get lucky.

When I listen to reference tracks/professional rock albums sound tighter, but also wide at the same time?

Just wondering how people approach the bass in rock music. Wondering if I'm missing a silver bullet that might revolutionise how I mix and record my bass.

Thanks!
