Have I Really Hit My Number?

I (39F) just learned about Coast FIRE. The calculators I’ve used say I’m good to go. This is hard for me to accept and actually change my ways, so I am looking for some external validation.

Goal: Retire at 60

Expenses at retirement: $96,000 including multiple retiree health care options from jobs.

Roth/401K balance: $460,000

Brokerage account balance: $30,000

Pension available after 40: $3000 per month

Question: Do I reduce my 401K contributions to 7% to continue to receive my employer match and invest the difference in my brokerage account and further reduce my retirement age? Or do I need to continue to contribute large amounts to my 401K?

Reducing bills

My dad just died. I am trying to reduce my mom‘s bills because she has very little income. I am trying to reduce her cell phone and Internet bills. I am thinking of just adding her to my T-Mobile account and letting her use the 60 GB of free hotspot data as her home Internet. Is this a bad idea?

Kansas City World Cup Review

So, when my(39F) husband(45M) bought tickets to the Algeria v Argentina WC game, I didn’t know what we were going to do on the other days of our trip. It turns out KC has some nice attractions. Here’s our itinerary:

Sunday: Royals vs. Astros game at Kauffman Stadium. We are slowly visiting all of the MLB stadiums. This was one of the better ones. The food was good, the ticket prices decent, and the Astros lost.

Monday: My husband went to the Negro League Museum, which was pretty cool. My daughter(14F) and I went to Worlds of Fun amusement park. It was lame because most of the coasters were closed. I was glad we didn’t spend any money because of our Six Flags season pass. We went to Kaw Point Park after dinner; it was very nice.

Tuesday: We parked at Union Station ($12 for all day parking). We walked to the WW1 Museum. I loved it. I wish I had more time. Went to Fan Fest. It was loud and overwhelming, but there were a lot of food choices and a fun bracelet making station. We drove to our hotel and freshened up.

We decided to pay $150 for FIFA parking. We got to the stadium area around 1800. It was a mad house. The National Guard were using Humvees to block certain approaches to the stadium. Eventually, my husband and daughter got out of the car and walked to the stadium. My husband found a cop who found the address for Gate 6 parking (7899 Stadium Drive, Kansas City, MO). Once I had the right address, things went better. I had to run, but I was in my seat by 10 minutes before kickoff.

The game was AMAZING! The last team we saw Messi play at the Copa America vs. Panama in Chicago at Soldier Field, we also almost didn’t make the start of the game due to traffic, and Messi also scored a hat trick.

Wednesday: We went to the Kansas City Zoo. It’s a great zoo and hard to see everything in one day. The free Animal Experience at 1430 was delightful and educational.

Food: Frutopia Paleteria in Kansas City. It had ice cream and tacos, two of my favorite things. Also, KC Craft Ramen in Overland Park was delicious!
