Hisense M2SE Pro, personal experience / review👌

Hisense M2SE Pro, personal experience / review👌

I’ve had the Hisense M2SE Pro for about a week now and since I could barely find any normal user experiences about it online, I figured I’d share mine here. Maybe it helps someone.

If anyone wants me to test/check something specific, feel free to ask.

I originally bought the BenQ GP520 after seeing some recommendations here on Reddit. It was fine overall, but in the end it just wasn’t really what I was looking for. I mainly use a projector in the bedroom pointed at the wall/ceiling, sometimes in the living room, and ideally also outside on late summer evenings. Outdoor use isn’t a must, but it’s something I want to try. I’ll probably test that sometime this week.

This was actually my first projector ever, so I don’t really have much to compare it to besides the BenQ. One thing I noticed while researching is that a lot of online reviews sound extremely positive to the point where it’s hard to tell what’s genuine and what’s basically marketing.

The BenQ definitely had a bright image. Still usable during the day and in the dark it looked really good. But Google TV on it felt pretty slow to me. Not unusable, just slow enough to become annoying after a while. The sound was okay too, but you could always clearly tell the audio was coming from the device sitting next to you.

With the Hisense, everything just feels a bit easier and more practical. Especially the built-in stand. I honestly use that way more than I expected. I move it around the house quite often and it’s nice not having to stack books underneath it to get the angle right. The zoom feature also turned out to be more useful than I expected, especially in smaller rooms.

Image-wise it’s definitely less bright than the BenQ, but in actual use that hasn’t really bothered me. I was a bit worried about that beforehand because of the specs online. For fun, I even tried doing my own ANSI lumen test with a lux meter. On my normal viewing settings I measured around 1060 ANSI lumens on a 90-inch image at a projection distance of 2 meters, while Hisense claims 1150. With brightness settings maxed out, I measured around 1260 ANSI lumens. No idea how accurate that really is, but I thought it was interesting to compare.

VIDAA also surprised me in a good way. From pressing the power button to actually being ready to use takes about 8 seconds on my unit, which feels much faster than Google TV did on the BenQ. Netflix and Prime work perfectly fine. The only annoying thing is that I sometimes have to switch regions for Belgian/Dutch apps.

A few smaller things I also liked:
- backlit remote buttons
- no massive power brick
- actually portable
- carrying case included

I’m not saying this is the best projector around this price range because I simply haven’t tested enough of them. But maybe this helps someone who, like me, spent way too much time reading reviews and just wanted an actual user experience 👌

I’ll also upload some photos later on, so feel free to follow the thread if you’re interested.
