Am I being dumb? Need purchase advice

Been pretty obsessed with ISF since I was a teenager (shoutout to savagegeese and anyone who’s watched that video), and finally in a spot financially where I’m comfortable pulling the trigger on one that’s in good shape.

Been passively looking for a few years, but finally got to test drive one for the first time and it’s everything that I dreamed (coming from an 08 Accord, for context). I’ve found two that interest me, the one I’m most into is a super clean 08 that’s tastefully modded (Air Oil Seperator, Borla Exhaust, Rear Poly Bushings, Steel Braided Brake Lines) with 85K miles and the shop wants $35K for it.

Obviously I’m aware of the market for these cars and how wilds it’s gotten since COVID so I’m sure people in here who bought one years back might think it’s crazy, but wanted to check whether I am truly being dumb on this one? Of course I’m planning to be VERY diligent (paying for a PPI, know the big ticket items to look for, etc.). The car is super clean so I really do want it, but I’m not so in love with it that I’m unwilling to walk if something seems off.

What did you pay and how many miles is too many miles?

Looking for an ISF in the south eastern US and semi blown away by how much people are asking. Looking for an ISF with a clean title in relatively good condition with close to or under 100K miles and most everything that meets those criteria is $35K plus (emphasis on plus).

A few options near 150k miles are more reasonably priced (around $25K or so), but at what point in terms of mileage should I start to get nervous? I know these engines are relatively bullet proof, and I’m planning on getting a PPI regardless of mileage, but want to make sure I’m making a good decision.

FWIW I’ve been dreaming of owning one of these since I was a kid, so once I buy it I plan on keeping it forever.

Would greatly appreciate any insight!
