[Hiring] Sci-Fi / Anime Apparel Illustrator & Graphic Designer | $200–500 per design
I'm looking for a professional illustrator/graphic designer to create original artwork for a new apparel line connected to my YouTube channel, SECTOR 07, where I build robotics, experimental hardware, and sci-fi-inspired projects.
What I'm looking for
I want to create unique apparel artwork around the different machines and projects I build. I'm specifically trying to avoid the look of traditional generic YouTuber merch. The goal is to create designs that stand on their own as cool clothing, even if someone has never seen my channel.
The general visual direction I'm interested in includes:
- Sci-fi / retrofuturism
- Anime and manga-inspired illustration
- Japanese graphic design influences
- Mecha, robotics, and technology
- Technical/mechanical illustration
- Industrial and futuristic graphic design/typography
- Contemporary graphic apparel
I included some images of examples I find interesting but I will give a lot of freedom to the artist. I will only provide a theme and some wording to include with each new piece. I'm open to original characters being incorporated into some designs, but not every piece needs to be character-focused. Some designs could revolve primarily around machines, technical illustrations, diagrams, typography, or other artistic interpretations of the projects. The first project is the Fetch Robot I'm building, included for reference.
Apparel design experience is a big plus. I'm not looking to simply place a standalone illustration on the center of a shirt. I'm interested in someone who understands how illustration, typography, smaller graphic elements, and front/back placement can work together as a complete apparel design.
Project & Budget
I'd like to start with one T-shirt/hoodie design with a budget of approximately $200–500 USD, depending on the complexity, scope, and deliverables.
If your normal rate falls somewhat outside this range but you feel your work is particularly well suited to the project, I'm still happy to see your portfolio.
If we work well together, I'd ideally like this to become an ongoing collaboration, with new artwork commissioned around each new future SECTOR 07 project.
This will be commercial merchandise, so we'll need to discuss commercial/merchandising usage rights as part of the commission. I'll also need appropriate high-resolution, print-ready deliverables and would prefer layered/source files where applicable.
AI
I'm looking for original, human-created artwork and do not want generative AI used to create the final artwork. People can tell, and that makes it feel less desirable.
Interested?
Please reply here with a link to your portfolio and, if possible, examples of your relevant work
I'd especially like to see examples of actual apparel you've designed, if you have them.
Please also include your approximate rates for this type of project and a little about your process.
Thanks!
