These seem pretty much the same, is there any advantage to one over the other?

What do you think the odds are of me pulling a Fearless Captain?

I have this screen here. What do the Xs next to the category mean? What do the little red cards do? Should I accept this roll? Does it mean the new traits are higher? Like crit chance will go up by 1.76%? Or the new total is 1.76%?
