If you have a Captain Crunch, if you actually use it, if you don't like the sheath it came with, if you want to carry the file and saw with you... anyone left?
Anyway, the spare saw/file set for the Surge is shipped in this little slip. It doesn't seem to be the most durable little guy but it's a step above just putting the saw and file in your pouch.
There are actually three of em in this photo. One in the tool, one on the board, and one in the sleeve. I came from an Arc to Captain Crunch. I actually used the eyeglasses bit. Kristen Van Patten has a simple inexpensive solution for tools without the eyeglasses bit holder. It's basically a flat bit with a socket in it for the eyeglasses bit. I'm not associated with Kristen Van Patten or anything. These are just some really good products that I thought this community would appreciate.
This is very well done. You don't even know it's there and doesn't interfere with using the scissors at all. I somewhat expected the magnet to grab the scissors and kinda be a bit fidgety...nope...not at all...a flawless execution really. Kristen Van Patten dropped in a couple of bonus goodies with my order a holder for bits/extender/ratchet that allows you to put them on a keyring. There's also an emergency whistle. I wish I would have thought to mention the whistle on the Signal post. I traded out the stock whistle and still ended up with a whistle. Everything I ordered dropped right in, fit, and worked perfectly. I'd definitely recommend Kristen Van Patten for any of the Leatherman mods offered.
Traded the whistle for bit storage and outside accessible Victorinox style tweezers. Traded the sharpener for outside accessible bit storage. Got a bunus thumb stud and magnet for the 1/4" bit holder on the carabiner.
The magnet for the 1/4" driver makes night and day difference using the ratchet driver.
Look like a watermelon box full of tools that were destroyed for some reason.
I'm curious how far these guys went with ripping off Leatherman. You think it was far enough that these could be used as donor parts for the Free series?
I've been a Leatherman guy for a looong time. I've never really modded anything until the last few months. I've added Victorinox style tools to a Charge and swapped out the combo blade on a P2. I'm planning on adding a bit driver to it too. I'm looking to change up a Crunch. Are there any of the other Leatherman tools that I can use as a donor?
The bit ratchet doesn't quite fit in the bit holder.
My Leatherman account shows a confirmed order but there is no information on Shop for the order. I've seen some folks have already had their Captain Crunch delivered. It seems off that my order isn't even being processed, or at least on Shop.
You guys think the Captain Crunch will ship with a file? It's not listed, but there's a pic with two tools in the sheath. I assume these are the Surge saw and file?
I don't get it. I have signed up multiple times for Garage emails and I'm a Leatherman Insider. This is the email that Leatherman chose to send me on the day they were having a Garage sale.
You know the drill by now. They have a few for sale on Amazon.
I added Victorinox style tools to a Charge TTI. Since this is a Victorinox inspired kind of mod, I thought it fitting to add a little red and white to the Charge. I could have sworn that there were removable tools on some variant of the Charge. I looked earlier today and came up with nothing. Does anyone recall a limited release Charge or Wave with removable Victorinox style tools?
I'm starting down the mod rabbit hole after carrying a Leatherman of one variety or another for the last 25+ years. I've always just bought em and used em as is. I really really didn't like the combo blade on my P2 and bought an aftermarket blade replacement. Then I saw that you could buy Victorinox style aftermarket tools for a Charge. What a neat idea right? Why not add some color too, as a nod to Victorinox? It didn't turn out as crisp as I had imagined. The dimple texture kinda made it hard to work with. Anyway, here I am, on the fence as to whether or not to keep it or just delete it all together. (Also, this is not a pocket tool, this guy lives in a drawer. It will see it's fair share of work, but the wear from a pocket isn't going to be an issue.)
This is going to definitely be a rabbit hole I'm going to be spending some time in. This is the first time I've had a Leatherman apart. Also, FYI a 1/8 of a turn on the P2 series pivot bolts is a night and day difference in the tension on the tools. I thought I had really messed up for a minute when I tightened everything up and I couldn't hardly open the blade.
