That’s a primary residence, a detached ADU, a junior ADU and a conversion ADU. All of which can be legally rented.

AB1740 is geared to return local control to our city for the downtown area. The city is asking for approval because it is key for our economic development. One of the major impediments to growth is the Coastal Commission and as the city plans events it is required to get this unelected bodies approval - approvals that typically take a year.

The Santa Monica NIMBY head is exploding because they are afraid local control will mean more new homes could get built quicker in downtown. The Santa Monica NIMBY has a history of wailing about the loss of control on every project that uses state standards to get built - which is every building over 3 stories.

"I am for local control when I can use it to prevent new housing, and I am against it when I cannot". Today, we even see a group of angry NIMBY leaders who call themselves "Northeast Neighbors" writing to the state asking that they deny returning local control to SM. In SM we have a history of a few NIMBY's who have the audacity to say they speak for the entire population of SM. Their leader is Councilwoman Lana Negrete.

Here is a link to an article that explains what is going on. Please note that the paper this was printed in has tried to bury the story as they are NIMBY funded.
