So, I just found out, while trying to get an item back from an Animon at my party, that if you select the option "Take out" from any Animon at your party, you can actually walk around the world with it!

Loved this gameplay detail, also because some of the Animon designs are pretty cool, and decided to post here in case someone goofed up like me and didn't realize that this was possible until almost the end of the game
