Gas Price Variance
I find it bizarre how much the price of gasoline varies across Saskatoon. Until now I’ve always operated under the assumption that the refineries and oil companies basically set the price, stations add 2-3 cents per litre so they can make a buck which means everyone is roughly the same except for Costco and Gas Plus who sell gas at a loss/break even just to get you in the door so you spend money on items with a higher profit margin/buy a membership which is pure profit.
However recently I’ve noticed there is at times a 20-30 cent per litre difference between gas stations on the same street. Confederation for example has been consistently dropping their price to be around 1.39, some stations are at $1.55, then Shell and others are at 1.69 which actually a difference you notice per fill and not just a marketing ploy being a couple cents different which at the end of the day adds up to less than a dollar per tank unless you are driving a truck or large SUV.
All you hear on the news is how Trump and the straight of Hormuz is causing prices to sore well how does that only affect some stations and not others?
