Gave up on organic traffic — it's just too hard. How many AI citations per day is considered decent?

Is there any industry benchmark for AI citation counts as a measure of a site's quality or authority? If there's no positive feedback loop from it, most people will eventually give up. Curious what numbers others are seeing and whether anyone actually treats this as a meaningful KPI.

Running a website for months with zero income — is it still worth the time?

My site gets under 50 organic visitors a day from traditional search. Pretty discouraging on the surface. But here's the weird part — Bing AI is citing my content around 200 times a day, and GA4 is showing a handful of visits coming in from ChatGPT daily.

So my question is: are these AI citation numbers actually good or just vanity metrics?

Does getting cited by Bing Copilot 200 times a day mean my content is genuinely considered quality by AI models? Or is it just noise that never converts to real traffic or revenue?

The GPT referrals are tiny, maybe 3 to 5 sessions a day, but it feels different from a random bot crawl. It feels like someone actually asked an AI about my topic and it sent them to me.

Has anyone successfully monetized a site that started in this AI citation but low organic traffic zone? Is this an early signal worth doubling down on, or should I be more realistic?

Would love to hear from people who stuck it out, or people who quit and don't regret it either.

My 2-month-old site has inconsistent AI citations — normal or something to fix?

Hi r/aeo,

I've been tracking AI citations for my site (about 2 months old) via Bing Webmaster Tools, and the data has been all over the place.

Over the past 7 days:

- Total citations: ~865

- Avg. cited pages: ~22

- But the daily numbers swing a lot — citations dropped significantly around May 16, then spiked on May 17, then leveled off

Some questions I can't figure out:

  1. Is this kind of volatility normal for a newer site, or is it a red flag?

  2. Does page count matter a lot — should I be publishing more content to stabilize citations?

  3. Any specific things you've done to make your content more "citation-worthy" for AI like Copilot?

I'm mainly being cited via Microsoft Copilots and Partners. Would love to hear from anyone who's been through the early-stage AEO journey. Thanks!
