Taming of the strays

I have a family of stray cats living in our backyard. We feed them and adore watching them out the windows but try as we might, we can’t seem to get them to trust us. We feed them at the same time every day. I will sit and not make eye contact, no noise, no big movements and the mother cat will come eat next to me ( about 3 feet away) but she is the only one. Also, they will not allow me to move or touch them in anyway. I would like to get them to the vet but am afraid trapping one of them in a cage would make the others run away. Also I don’t want to traumatize them. I live in a neighborhood but in a rural area no local non profits that trap feral cats. Is there anything I can do to get them to trust me enough to allow me to pet/pick them up? Just looking for ideas or people with similar experiences. What worked for you?
