1990 Corolla Head gasket update

Following on from my previous post, I have begun the process of changing my head gasket, and am at the point of checking timing and top dead center.

From what I can tell it seems the timing is already off a wee bit?

-If I get it lined up down the bottom (as shown) including piston 1 at top of stroke.

-Then the top dead center marks on the cam shafts are off a bit (possibly by a tooth).

And visa versa if I line up the camshaft marks.

Am I good to go ahead and take the belts off and just try to line everything up correctly when I put it back together?

Or should I aim to keep it the same as it is?

Thanks in advance!

Head Gasket questions

Hi all,

So I'm 90% sure I have a blown head gasket in my 1990 Corolla. (Bubbling and overflowing coolant from cold start.)

Currently I'm debating a few options:

1-Try K Seal (stop leak) as a cheap temporary fix to hopefully give the car a bit longer life, but keen to hear if anyones actually had much luck with it?

2- Bite the bullet and put the time in to do the head gasket replacement myself.

3-Try K seal first and if that fails to stop the coolant issues then go for the head gasket repair, but I'm unsure if too much driving with K seal might bring about more issues than its worth?

Keen to hear anyones insights or what they would go for in this situation!

Cheers
