18yo Italian student looking for my first remote job
Hi everyone,
I'm 18 and I'm currently in my last year of an IT school in Italy. I'm trying to find my first real job/work experience in software development and I'd appreciate some advice on where to look.
I'm mainly a backend guy. I know Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, PHP, C/C++, MySQL and Git/GitHub. I've also worked with Angular, React, TypeScript, HTML and SCSS, although backend is definitely what I enjoy the most.
I also did a 3-week internship at an Italian software company.
I'm currently working on two projects for my GitHub: one is a school project with an ESP32 and the other is a personal project about AI agents.
My English is C1, so I'm completely fine working with people in English. Since the job would be remote, I'm also not really limiting myself to Italy.
I can dedicate around 3 hours a day to work.
At this point I'm honestly much more interested in getting experience and learning how real software development works than in making a lot of money. I'm also fine with starting small.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a software company either. If a small business needs someone to build a simple internal tool, automate something, make a website/backend, etc., I'd be interested in that too.
For people who started working young: how did you find your first opportunity?
Where should I actually be looking?
