Balling on a budget - <$400 laptop with a bright 1440p screen, "good" speakers, and good IO for Linux

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • USA
  • <$400
  • Has to be refurb lol
  • 14-15.6"
  • Don't care about weight
  • Purpose - General web browsing, media consumption, light gaming (I have a gaming PC, most I'd run is like emulators, Switch emulation would be the most resource intensive thing
  • Form factor: Standard
  • Intended Usage: Its going to be a Linux notebook, if I can do some light gaming that's a plus but I have a gaming PC so its not important.
  • Desired battery life: Doesn't really matter, Linux is goated.
  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
    • Screen and IO (multiple USB-C ports) are most important, followed by a good keyboard.
  • Info/Requirements: I'm pretty much just looking for the best display panel I can get for under $400 (refurb), 2-3 USB-C ports, and USB-C charging.

touchpad is the ONLY thing that's not working

its like a 50/50 chance my touchpad works perfectly after a reboot

if it's not, it's stuttery and has trouble recognizing touch to click and double taps

it's a synaptics touch pad on a ThinkPad

Total noob, installed Void, no idea where the last 3 hours went.

Wow, I'm amazed.

I rescued an "e-wasted" laptop from work, 8th gen i5 thinkpad.

Everything is just so responsive, the logic makes sense. Anytime I was slightly confused once I "got it" I didn't even question why it worked that way, it just made sense.

I don't even know where to begin. Its a whole new world.

as a flashlight guy "in denial" the wurkkos ts26s finally got me

Got a flashlight from maratac a while back and liked it but hated the UI and charging the battery

Then I got an olight arkfeld ultra and enjoyed the convenience factor.

but just got the wurkkos and now I just want to wander in the dark and play with lights

Got another job lined up - Coasting at my current one, should I just leave?

Coworkers are already aware, manager has noted I'm mentally checked out.

New job is set for after Memorial Day and I've got like >100hrs of vacation banked that I'll get paid out for.

On a side note - I'm jumping from an overworked entry level field tech/desktop support role to Tier III and getting a huge pay bump.
