‘#No_Filter’ (2022)

Last night I decided to watch the 2022 Tubi Original horror film #No_Filter. From the title alone, you can venture to guess that this movie isn’t that good. If that was your assumption, you’d be right!

The synopsis goes- As the #1 social influencer at her high school, Anna is still discovering the advantages and drawbacks of this new status. Home alone, she’s determined to gain as many followers as possible but when the line between real and virtual is getting blurry, the night becomes bloody.

The acting and tone were actually ok, but it ends up being quite boring and a little corny in its execution. Social media-based horror is rarely ever good, with Cam (2018) being an example of one that is well done. The film on hand definitely pales in comparison to Cam, just like many others in the same vein. #No_Filter isn’t completely terrible, but it’s far from good.

Tubi Original ‘Cabin Girl’ (2023)

I watched the 2023 Tubi Original drama/ thriller titled ‘Cabin Girl’ last night. The team behind it did what seemed like their best to make this one come across as a real movie, but I ended up not liking it too much.

While the performances and direction weren’t bad, the dialogue, writing, and editing all came across pretty amateurish. The ending actually worked for me, so there’s that. But overall it was fairly boring and didn’t make much of an impact on me at all.

I ended up giving it a 2/5 on Letterboxd for those of you on that platform. Not a terrible concept for a movie, but poor execution, sadly.

Streamer (2016)

I watched this low-budget film on Tubi last night and thought it was great. A very realistic portrayal of a character in his position. Much better than I was expecting. Check it out- it’s a dark one!!

I saw the original movie released in 2013 also by Hannah Fiddell back in November and liked it quite a bit. Going into this limited series, I was curious as to how they would expand a 75 minute movie into a 10-part retelling of the story.

I thought the series was pretty good, but not incredible by any means. Kate Mara and Nick Robinson, the two leads of the series, do a really nice job and hit all of the emotional beats I wanted out of them. I wanted a better ending to the series, but I still found myself hooked into the story for all 10 episodes.

For anyone who has watched the movie and or the series ‘A Teacher’, what did you think of it?
