"I’ve finished installing the three side intake fans for the noctua 12x25 theme. I’ll be replacing the liquid cooling fans soon.

**I'm so excited to finally share this with you all!**🥹🥹

I will show you the 'as-received' condition and the 'refurbished' condition.

I recently imported a classic Toshiba RT-S83 dual-deck boombox from Japan. Here is a breakdown of the restoration journey.

Initial Condition

Upon arrival, the unit was in the following state:

Radio: FM reception was weak; AM produced only static.

Cassette Decks: Both Deck 1 and Deck 2 were completely non-functional; tapes would not play.

Audio Output: The left speaker had significant noise, while the right speaker was only slightly better.

Cosmetics: The transparent cassette doors were yellowed and heavily scratched. Knobs and switches showed visible corrosion and grime. The rear cabinet was aged, yellowed, and in poor overall condition.

The Restoration Process

I performed an extensive overhaul to bring the unit back to its former glory:

Full Recap: Replaced all capacitors on the circuit board, including filter and coupling capacitors, using high-end Japanese audiophile-grade capacitors. All capacitors near the power supply were also replaced.

Maintenance: Cleaned all functional potentiometers, volume knobs, and microphone jacks. I also performed a full solder reflow on the mainboard to ensure stable connections.

Exterior Refurbishment: Performed oxidation reversal (de-yellowing) and polishing on the transparent cassette doors. The rear cabinet was sanded and repainted.

Audio Upgrades: Added MKP audiophile crossover capacitors to the tweeters to enhance clarity.

The Results

After 10 days of dedicated work, the unit is now fully functional.

Sound Quality: The bass is now deep, punchy, and solid, while the highs are crystal clear and transparent.

Final Steps: The only remaining tasks are sanding and repainting the metal speaker grilles and the Deck 2 door cover. I expect to complete the project very soon.
