Struggling in sterile IV training—any Daptomycin and Fetroja recon/extraction advice?

I am struggling with syringe mechanics and pressure. I’ve had to re-accomplish orders because I’ve lost medication to foaming or medication expelling due to pressure imbalance. I told my trainer from Day 1 that I had no syringe experience—including just holding them correctly—and hoped to be able to learn/practice. We spent approximately 5 minutes with a bottle of sterile water, and she told me there is “right way” and I would “figure it out”. What’s happened is my practice is happening with expensive medications, and I’m struggling. I would appreciate any tips, advice, or thoughts—whether about these medications or in general. I’ve had inky black iron leak and expel on me and frustrating and I seem to consistently get shorted on Daptomycin and Fetroja after successful reconstitution. I know it’s my syringe mechanics. Should I press practice materials to take home and just work on this myself? Anyone have ideas on how to approach my trainer at this stage? I have been in the pharmacy for just a week and half and the other day I was left solo to compound these orders after just observing for several days.

2026 PrePTCB Scores and correlation to actual PTCB score

My pharmacy tech program includes a PrePTCB Exam voucher. I took the pre-exam and scored extremely well to my surprise given my continued struggle with medications (which was still my lowest scoring area).

For those who tested this year with the new content outline and who also took the PrePTCB:

  1. How did your actual exam score compare to the practice?

  2. Did the actual exam feel the same in terms of difficulty level, and if not, did it seem easier or more difficult?

I’m feeling more confident about my ability to pass the exam now, but I am curious about how others felt about the pre-exam’s impact on their actual performance.

Using the whiteboard on the PTCB

Hi folks,

I’m preparing for the exam and concerned about having to use an electronic whiteboard for calculations. I am an old school, scratch paper person. I’ve spent three months learning and structuring calculations in a way that is understandable and repeatable, but not conducive to a format that would type out easily. I have been practicing with Pearson’s sample whiteboard and it is taking too much time just to type the info let alone apply brain bytes to solve. I wish they would just let us use an actual whiteboard and dry erase marker!!!

Looking for any tips test takers have had.
